amazngj's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Year in reveiw 2003 In the Powers household, we have now entered what we have customarily reffered to as, "The Year of the Baby." This year comes around on a random basis and is not expected to be seen again in this lifetime. But, you never know, Babies are sneaky. So they tell me, I haven't actually met this one yet. Not that I haven't introduced myself repeatedly, but this stubborn baby has not yet responded to my friendly words, songs or stories in an interpretable manner. I have received gentle kicks to the face or hands, but my wife's bladder has become the true punching bag in these situations. With very little effort as far as diving into details, I am going to recap 2003 for my life and in my terms, because apparantly thats what every soul on the planet must do within the first week of 2004. January - don't remember doing much in January. I probably worked a lot though. And we were planning for the wedding. February - I screwed up Valentine's day. I was not nearly romantic or thoughtful enough. And I think my brother visited around then too. March - We had a bridal shower. Sandy and Rose came out, as did my mother, Liz was surprised. We will never forget having to stop by the store for dramamine before going over for dinner. April - craziness insued as we prepared to get ready for the wedding next month. May - We were finally married!! After a year and a half of counting down the days and all of the hard work I put into watching Liz do all the hard work to make May 24th be the happiest day of our lives, everything was perfect, especially the mud, because it helped show off how wonderful and easy going my wife could be in any circumstance. June - we entered in the OuterBanks, NC and it was gorgeous. The greatest house and greatest view, as well as the greatest company. July - I switched job sites from twenty minutes north to forty minutes south. A step on the road to advancment. But most memorable was coming home that first night from the new store and learning that Liz and I were expecting a baby. I'm sure she'll never forget my first words, "And how do you feel about that?" August - Was august the month with the hurricane or the north east blackout. Either one - very little impact here. September - see august October - I didn't get to take my annual adventure to Pittsburgh this October because I'm saving my vacation for the baby's arrival, but Liz got to go see them for me. I also celebrated the last birthday I want to talk about. November - My wife's in-laws came to spend thanksgiving with my in-laws. It was like a laugh out loud rousing fun fest movie without all the funny or even enjoyable parts. But on the plus side, it prompted me to have a long overdue conversation with my mother that now has her acting the way we all complained that she wasn't acting. Wow, if I'd done that sooner, we all would've gotten along better years ago. December - A last minute request by grandad brought Liz and I out to Pittsburgh so that The Ulrich-Powers clan was all together for the first time since 98. It was a wonderful and worthwhile reunion. So, that was 2003. A year of change, a year of firsts and a year of lasts (weddings and morning sickness, to name a few). When you look at it, it was the most interesting, exciting and monumentally changing year of my life. Lets look at the years of my life and their signifigance compared to this year. 1974 - born (okay, that was a big one too.) 1975 - moved to United States 1976 - nothing 1977 - moved to Pittsburgh 1978 - nothing 1979 - nothing 1980 - started school 1981 - big snowstorm 1982 - I think I joined indian guides. My name was "sitting duck" 1983 - Started CubScouts 1984 - Reagan reelected 1985 - dated Kim Federovich; first kiss 1986 - Challenger disaster 1987 - Started working at camp 1988 - went to New Mexico 1989 - started high school 1990 - Eagle Scout; driver's license 1991 - first speeding ticket; first car accident; second speeding ticket 1992 - graduated high school; started college 1993 - first internship 1994 - Woodstock 94 1995 - I don't remember 1995 1996 - moved to Delaware 1997 - moved to Maine 1998 - moved back to Delaware 1999 - started year in Times Square 2000 - graduated college; met Liz, started new job 2001 - started buying a home with Liz 2002 - proposed to Liz 2003 - married Liz, expecting a child. So, with the exception of birth, life has been pretty dull until I met Liz and it's been getting more exciting every year. With the addition of another member to our family, I can't wait to see what kind of excitment we're building to next. Have a great year. 01:29 - 05 January 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
